In 2001, Glenn R. Bullock, CEO of A.J. Antunes & Co., led a team to China to scout out several cities and locations for our first overseas manufacturing operation. AJA had been expanding globally and we were looking for a way to improve our service in the growing Asian Markets. The best location to accommodate our goal was the city of Suzhou; the second-largest industrial city next to Shanghai and one of China's most prosperous cities.
The facility was up and running by September 2003 with 8 employees and two production lines. The manufacturing progression started with wire sets then grew to assemble Antunes Controls units. The manufacturing area continued to grow and eventually included 15 production lines covering all three divisions of A.J. Antunes & Co. As for sales and service, the Suzhou operation almost immediately generated new business for AJA. The facility quickly became an asset in the sales and service for Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific Rim.
As business increased, A.J. Antunes & Co. was continuously looking for ways to better serve our customers. It became apparent to the company that the operation in Suzhou required a new, larger facility. On Friday, January 14th, 2011, Antunes Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. moved to a new facility located in the New District of Suzhou. The new Suzhou location has more than 43,000 square feet (4,000 square meters) and is now better suited to supply our customers in the Asia Pacific region.
